PETALING JAYA: It pays to be a successful badminton player and coach.
The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) have forked out a total of RM400,000 to reward the medal winners from the Olympics and Paralympics in Tokyo respectively at the Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM) in Bukit Kiara on Thursday.
Bronze medal winners Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik were given RM120,000 under the BAM’s incentive scheme while their coach Flandi Limpele earned RM30,000 on behalf of the men’s doubles department team of coaches.
Aaron-Wooi Yik also received additional monetary boost from their sponsors 100Plus during the same ceremony – a total of RM60,000.
Although para shuttlers come under the umbrella of the Paralympic Council of Malaysia (PCM), the BA of Malaysia have announced that they had taken the initiative to reward the country’s first badminton gold medal winner Cheah Liek Hou with a sum of RM200,000 while his coach Datuk Rashid Sidek would be given RM50,000.
