WHEN the going gets tough, the tough get going. That epitomes newly crowned Thailand Masters champions Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi.
Three weeks after they were booted out by the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), Yew Sin-Ee Yi emerged as the best performers by winning their first title in four years – and immediately moved up three rungs to world No. 17.
They found a new sponsor Li-Ning Malaysia and even won the selection to represent Malaysia in the Asia Team Championships in Manila from Feb 11-16.
They are the only independent players in the 10-member men’s team.
Prior to the Thailand Masters, they consistently reached the quarter-finals in the Malaysian and Indonesian Masters respectively.
